Craftworks Society {Creations by Artisans with Disabilities}

I first found out about the Craftworks Society while attending the Maker Fair in Vancouver last year.  They had a booth displaying their products and after learning a bit more about their mission and who they were I knew I wanted to feature them on the blog.

Since 1966, Craftworks has provided meaningful work for Vancouver adults who are unable to seek and maintain regular employment due to physical challenges and/or mental illness. Craftworks Society provides a craft-therapy program which offers individuals working to overcome physical disability and/or mental illness the opportunity to increase self-esteem, personal growth and creative skills, while providing them supplemental income through participation.

Participants of this program receive craft kits that have been prepared by volunteers (volunteers deliver them to their homes). Once completed these items become the products that are sold at their society's shop at 2208 West 4th Avenue in Vancouver and at multiple conventions and craft fairs.   It is wonderful to see that the participants are really devoted to their work and the quality of workmanship is extremely high.

We received one of their very popular Sock Monkeys and a Felt Story Sets to feature.  The Sock Monkey was immediately a hit with my little one. He couldn't get enough of it. It has been his best friend for many months.  The quality  of the product is excellent and I love knowing that every purchase supports their organization.

Their felt stories are so wonderful, they are perfect for creative play and they make an excellent gift for mailing. They are flat and light plus unbreakable and fit in an envelope!  You can purchase their Felt Stories at their shop or online on their website.  We received Goldilocks and the Three Bears and we love our set. I like that you get the actual story as well so you can read it to your child. A must have for any little one.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Craftworks Society,  becoming a volunteer, purchasing their products or making a donation please visit their website www.3hcraftworks.com for more details or visit their store in Kitsilano at 2208 West Fourth Avenue.

Disclosure: I received a sample of a product to facilitate my review. No other compensation was provided and and all views and opinions stated on this post are 100% my own.
