I love making meals for my almost 9 month old. I get really excited when I find a particular recipe that he really enjoyed and I usually share it with my other mommy friends. Every other week I will share my favorite healthy recipe of the day with all of you as well.
Making your own baby food is easy, safe and fast! You can find links to all of my recipes in my "Mommy Tips" section of the website in the future as well.
This week's recipe is: Baked Butternut Squash
Butternut Squash is delicious and nutritious plus it contains tons of Vitamin A and Folate, just want you want when feeding your baby a healthy diet!
Ingredients:
1 small leek, chopped
(3/4 cup) Cheddar cheese (grated)
(1/4 cup) flour
(1 cup) half and half cream
a pinch of ground ginger
a pinch of ground black pepper
a pinch of ground ginger
a pinch of ground black pepper
Directions:
- Pre-heat the oven to 345 F and grease a baking dish
- Mix the cream, ginger and pepper in a bowl and put aside
- Cover the squash with the flour
- Put half of the squash in the baking dish and add the leeks and half of the cheese on top (first layer)
-Add the remaining squash and cheese on top (second layer)
-Pour the mixed cream, ginger and pepper on top of everything (final layer)
-Bake for about 45 minutes to one hour (after it is done let it stand for 5-10 minutes)
Now you can chop/blend it to achieve the desired texture and serve :)
What I love about this recipe is that it is super tasty and we can have it for dinner as well!
*Please Remember: Always check with your pediatrician regarding introducing solid foods to your baby and specifically discuss any foods that may pose allergy risks.
December 19--My eldest granddaughter was feeding her son homemade squash, peas, carrots, etc.(she had bought a Baby Bullet to puree food) She felt rushed one day(working Mom again) gave him store bought vegetables and he spit them out!! -A discerning palette at eight months. -el03ro.
ReplyDeleteMy son was all over butternut squash this fall. I just never put so many seasonings in his food before now. We're just getting into a little bit of EVOO and garlic.
ReplyDeleteGoing to try this soon. Just bought three nice butternut squash... Thanks

You're going gourmet on me here! What happened to plain squash oven baked tightly covered and then turn into purée? Thanks for sharing.
